Kyo-yaki is a unique style that originated Kyoto, the city of sophistication and cultural refinement. Kyo-yaki consists of a wide variety of the most fashionable pottery and porcelain wares, all produced from an eclectic mixture of clays and finished off with a creative coloring techniques. Three prominent styles of ceramics were established in Kyoto: Raku ware, Awata ware, and Kiyomizu ware. Awata and Kiyomizu were developed exclusively by potter Nonomura Ninsei during the 17th century. Ninsei revolutionized the concept of enameling, thus bringing Kyo-yaki to the forefront of the world of ceramics.
